THUMBS UP: The used book sale this week at First Church of Lombard will fund several scholarships, including one for a Glenbard East High School student and another for a local woman going back to school. The Lombard Area American Association of University Women event continues from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. It's a chance to grab a good book for a great cause.

THUMBS UP: Congratulations to Joan Knippen, who recently received the Susan G. Komen Chicagoland Area Promise of One award. Knippen was recognized for her volunteer work as the education/mission chairwoman for the Chicago Race for the Cure as well as chairwoman for the Lombard Race for the Cure. This year's Lombard race will be Sept. 21 at the Yorktown Center.
