VILLA PARK – Low-income families in DuPage County will have an opportunity Wednesday to get their children free immunizations, physicals, dental exams and school supplies at the Back to School Fair.

The DuPage Regional Office of Education is partnering with Catholic Charities to host the annual event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Odeum Expo Center, 1033 N. Villa Ave, in Villa Park.

Volunteers collected more than 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for the event, according to a Regional Office of Education news release. Last year’s event was attended by more than 4,500 people.

The fair is open to students kindergarten through 12th grade. Free services also include books, food, legal counseling and financial information.

“It is estimated that the average family spends more than $600 on back-to-school related expenses. We hope that by providing these backpacks, we can help students in DuPage County go back to school well prepared and ready to learn,” Regional Superintendent Darlene Ruscitti said in the release.

For more information about eligibility and services, contact Catholic Charities at (630) 495-8008.
