DOWNERS GROVE – More than 450 people attended the annual Fishing Derby on Saturday in Patriot’s Park.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, families lined the banks of Barth Pond in hopes of reeling in $600 in cash prizes – the Downers Grove Park District tagged three fish worth $100, $200 or $300 that lucky anglers younger than 16 had a chance of catching. None of the three lucky fish were caught this year.
Prizes also were awarded for the longest and shortest fish caught in each of the four age groups.
Across all groups, the longest fish of the day was 20.25 inches, and the shortest was 2.75 inches.
