ELMHURST – Chris Nybo, R-Elmhurst, will replace Kirk Dillard of Hinsdale in the Illinois Senate's 24th District.
Nybo's appointment comes after Dillard resigned from the state Senate on Sunday in order to accept his appointment as chairman of the Regional Transportation Authority, according to a news release.
DuPage GOP Chairwoman Darlene Ruscitti and Lyons Township GOP committeeman James Falvey convened a committee, which appointed Nybo to be sworn in and fulfill the term. The overwhelming majority of the district is in DuPage County with a few precincts in Western Springs that define the makeup of the nominating committee, the release said.
Ruscitti, who represents more than 95 percent of the GOP weighted vote in the district, said she nominated Nybo because voters had already chosen him in the March primary.
Nybo will be sworn in at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Sunken Garden Memorial at Lombard Common Park. GOP Senate Leader Christine Radogno and Dillard will attend the ceremony along with several elected state officials, family and friends of the new senator, the release said.
The 24th District includes all or parts of Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Willowbrook, Westmont, Darien, Downers Grove, Western Springs, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Elmhurst, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lisle.
