Jendryk, Rooney shine on volleyball world stage

St. Francis High School graduate Jeff Jendryk was selected to the final 12-man roster of the 2014 USA Men's Junior National volleyball team that competed at the NORCECA Under-21 Championships in El Salvador from July 28 to August 3.

The U.S. squad ended up bringing home a bronze medal. Jendryk tallied 28 kills and 10 blocks in the tourney, including four kills and three blocks in the third place match against Puerto Rico.

Jendryk was one of 21 players invited to the training camp in Lake Placid that began on July 13. He will compete for defending national champion Loyola University next spring.

Rooney helps Team USA win gold medal

With a 31-29, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory against Brazil on July 20, the U.S. Men's National volleyball team clinched the FIVB World League gold medal for the second time in the team's history.

Sean Rooney, a 6-foot-10 outside hitter and Wheaton Warrenville South graduate, was one of 12 players on the roster and he contributed to the win by totaling 21 kills and three blocks during the tourney.

Team USA captured its first FIVB gold medal in 2008.
