Five Seasons sees stellar tennis tourney finishes

BURR RIDGE – A handful of tennis players who train at Five Seasons had outstanding showings at a prestigious tournament this summer.

The final results from United States Tennis Association Midwest Section Closed Junior Championship prominently featured several Five Seasons players.

In all, 12 players who are coached by Five Seasons Tennis Director Tim Troiano advanced to the fourth day of the six-day tournament, and three were playing on the last day.

Lahari Yelamanchili advanced to the quarterfinals in both the Girls 14 singles and doubles brackets. Yelamanchili, a club member since 2001, also won the Girls 14U title at the Chicago District Championships prior to her outstanding run at the Midwest Closed tourney.

Gabe Guzauskas advanced to the round of 16 in the main draw of Boys 12 singles and played in a consolation quarterfinal.

Agata Mikos lost in the round of 32 in the Girls 14 singles draw, but then won four consolation matches before falling against Yelamanchili. She also teamed with sister Marta Mikos in Girls 14 doubles action.

Kristopher Ortega made it to the round of 16 in the Boys 16 singles draw at the Midwest Closed, and Angelina Ye won a pair of main draw matched in the Girls 16 bracket at the tourney.

The showings by Five Seasons players at the Midwest Closed were just the latest in a string of successes for players at the club.

• Jack Carroll won the Boys 14U title at the Chicago District Championships prior to competing at the Midwest Closed tourney.

• Ye was the winner at the 16U Girls level at the Northern Illinois Tennis Association Qualifier while Ortega won at the 18U boys level.

• Five Seasons member Lope Adelakun teamed with Hinsdale Central teammate Chase Hamilton to place second in the doubles draw at the Illinois High School Association state tournament in the spring.

• Tony Leto, who attends Downers Grove South, finished sixth in the singles bracket at the IHSA state tournament.

Several other players from the area who competed at the Midwest Closed had stellar finishes.

Isabella Lorenzini won the Girls 16 singles title and Eddie Grabill placed third in the Boys 18 singles draw.

Gianni Ross was the winner in the Boys 16 singles draw and Lorenzini teamed with Chiara Lommer to take third in doubles play.

Martin Joyce teamed with Paul Oosterbaan to win the Boys 18 doubles title.

Arjun Asokumar made it to the championship match in the Boys 12 singles bracket and finished second. Stephanie Dolehide finished fourth in the Girls 14 singles bracket.
