Barrington funeral set for neglected baby

BARRINGTON – An Illinois-based non-profit organization, dedicated to providing Christian funerals and burials for abandoned babies, is working with the Barrington Police Department to plan a funeral for the late 7-month-year-old Mya Edwards, of Barrington.

According to Rest In His Arms Founder Susan Walker, the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at St. Anne Church, 120 Ela Street, in Barrington.

Edwards will buried in a donated plot at Barrington's Evergreen Cemetery, 610 Dundee Avenue, following the funeral, Walker said.

All are invited to attend.

Walker said her group "would like to pack the church in support of this innocent little baby."

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office determined Edwards' Jan. 8 death to be homicide due to malnutrition from starvation.

Two Bolingbrook parents, Markisha Jones, 19, and Gene Edwards, 22, who had been living with their children in Barrington at the time, were charged in May with involuntary manslaughter and felony child endangerment by the Barrington Police Department and Cook County State's Attorney's office.
