Public meeting planned for Algonquin Fox River corridor plan

ALGONQUIN – A public kick-off meeting is planned for the village's Fox River Corridor Plan.

Algonquin, along with Carpentersville, the Kane County Forest Preserve and McHenry County Conservation District, is working on a Fox River Corridor Plan to find ways to increase access to the river, improve water quality, and enhance the two downtown areas.

Algonquin's downtown study plan, approved last year, included recommendations to utilize the river as a way of attracting people to the downtown area. Access to the water is considered a dominant asset for the village.

The study will focus on safe walking and biking connections between key destinations along the riverfront such as the Algonquin Dam, Carpentersville Dam and Fox Bluff/Camp Algonquin .

The planning process is expected to cost about $70,000 and is being paid for with federal money.

To give input, there will be a public kick-off meeting for the Fox River Corridor Plan from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran School, 300 Jefferson St. in Algonquin.
