RIVERSIDE — Multiple people were reported injured in a crash that occurred outside of the Brookfield Zoo, according to a news release from the Riverside Police Department.
Riverside police received calls reporting the accident at around 11 a.m. Wednesday on First Avenue, north of Ridgewood in the southbound lanes adjacent to the Brookfield Zoo.
A Chevy Town and Country minivan was traveling southbound on First Avenue at the Zoo woods when the driver changed lanes from the curb lane to the center lane and struck a Cadillac SRX in the center lane, according to the release.
Five individuals from Texas were in the Cadillac, including a 32-year-old female, 11-year-old male, 5-year-old male and 2-year-old male, who were transported to Loyola University Medical Center. According to the release, the injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
Antonio Delgadillo, 79, of Chicago, was issued a citation for improper lane usage, according to the release.
First Avenue was shut down in both directions between 31st Street and Ridgewood Road for around an hour.
