CICERO – Cicero police charged two juveniles, each with 10 counts of armed robbery and three counts of attempted armed robbery, in connection with a wave of armed robberies that occurred in Cicero and Berwyn on July 17 and 21.
Cicero police officials said there were two armed robberies reported on July 17 involving three offenders, two of which were on bicycles, who confronted juvenile victims on the street at gunpoint and demand cash, cell phones and iPods.
There were only two offenders on July 21, both offenders were again on bicycles, and one produced a short-barreled revolver, which police said was consistent with the weapon used in the previous robberies.
The subjects were captured July 21 shortly after being identified by the victims when they saw them riding around on a light blue, older model bike and a silver BMX-style bike, the same used in the robberies.
The offenders were caught after a foot pursuit with the police July 21, who then recovered the proceeds from the robbery from the suspects.
Berwyn police also reported a similar armed robbery July 21. Berwyn investigators arrived on the scene and conducted a line up for their victims, who positively identified the offenders. Property from the Berwyn victims was also recovered.
The juvenile offenders were each charged with 10 counts of armed robbery and three counts of attempted armed robbery. Information is being passed on to local police departments to compare it to recent robberies in their jurisdictions. Cicero Police investigators are meeting with victims in other cases to continue their investigations.
