THUMBS UP: Lombard artist Sean McMenemy is on a mission to inspire growth in downtown Lombard. McMenemy, who designs software for the popular "Golden Tee" arcade-style games, created the village's summer banners, which are now hanging above downtown streets. Thanks for donating your time and talents.

THUMBS UP: This Thumb has a bit of an up-and-down feel to it, but the good news is that it appears the Lombard Police Department has made strides in its battle against drunk drivers. A recent survey shows the department improved by 41 percent in its DUI-arrest frequency during a one-year period in 2012 and 2013. While it may give the unfortunate, and possibly unfair, perception that there's a growing number of drunk drivers in Lombard, it's good to see our local law enforcement cracking down.
