Cantigny to celebrate McCormick Day

WHEATON – Cantigny Park, 1S151 S. Winfield Road, will celebrate the birthday of its benefactor, Col. Robert R. McCormick, with a variety of activities and demonstrations Wednesday, according to a park news release.

McCormick was born on the same day in 1880, and lived on the park's 500-acre estate from 1920 until his death in 1955.

Activities will include an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McCormick Museum, splash artillery target practice from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a performance by Ellie Carlson at 11 a.m., a birthday cake cutting at noon and a wreath-laying ceremony at 3 p.m.

Vintage games and birthday cards will also be available for children on the Parade Field, and Cantigny's large mural will be open to paint starting at 1 p.m.

Representatives from adoptaBull English Bulldog Rescue and Save-A-Vet.org will be present.
