Westmont Park District hosts trip to Indiana pierogi festival

WESTMONT – The Westmont Park District and a handful of residents will venture to the Whiting, Ind. Pierogi Festival on July 25.

The annual Pierogi Festival, which pays homage to the dietary staple of the local Polish and Slovak communities, features 16 pierogi vendors serving pierogis stuffed with an assortments of meats, sweets and cheeses, according to a Westmont Park District news release.

Additionally, 50 other vendors will be serving everything from Polish sausage, to ribs, frog legs, Paczkis and deep fried Twinkies while Polka bands, Polish music, dancers and pop music entertain festival goers at one of four entertainment stages.

A bus will depart the community center, 75 E. Richmond St., at 10:30 a.m. July 25 and return at about 4:30 p.m. The trip costs $45 for residents and $48 for non-residents.
