Published: Tuesday, July 22, 2014 3:38 p.m. CST

ADDISON – The Addison Police Department will begin the next Spanish-speaking Community Emergency Response Team training course on Tuesday.

The training program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Team members can assist other residents following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help, according to a news release.

Classes will meet 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday from July 22 through Sept. 9. Applications for the program are available at the Addison Police Department, 3 Friendship Plaza, or at addisonpoliceillinois.org.

For more information, contact the Community Emergency Response Team program coordinator, Officer Omar Brucal, at 630-543-3080 ext. 7900 or OBrucal@Addison-IL.org.
