Thumbs up and a big congratulations to all the Hinsdale South High School athletes who competed in the State Special Olympics Summer Games at Illinois State University. Jorge Huerta won gold in the Pentathlon, and was the first student in the school's history to compete in the event. Huerta also set personal bests in five other events. In all, 11 Hinsdale South athletes competed in track and field and swimming events. Hats off to all the athletes, organizers and fundraisers who make this annual event possible.

Thumbs up to District 181 for hosting another successful summer learning program. From June 12 to July 3, the program provided a host of academic and fun-based classed for children in kindergarten through seventh grade. Additionally, enrollment numbers have increased each year, growing from 244 summer students in 2011 to 575 students in 2014.
