Land Conservancy organizes conservation meeting for women

WOODSTOCK – Female owners and managers of area farmland are invited to a discussion on conservation this month.

The "Women Caring for the Land" meeting starts with coffee and registration at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at the McHenry County Farm Bureau, 1102 McConnell Road, Woodstock.

The women-only day of education starts with an informal discussion in the morning and moves toward a more in-depth look at two or three topics of high interest, according to a news release from The Land Conservancy of McHenry County.

“We have worked with women landowners for 15 years,” said Leigh Adcock, executive director for the Women, Food and Agriculture Network.  “They are some of the most dedicated conservationists in the region but are typically overlooked with traditional conservation outreach, which is targeted at the tenant farmer”.

After lunch, area conservationists will guide a bus tour to view conservation practices in person.

Female conservation professionals will lead discussions and answer questions on topics such as soil health, water quality, wildlife management, government cost-share programs, and how to talk with tenants about management practices.

The program concludes with refreshments at 3 p.m., the release said.

Attendees should RSVP to Linda Balek of The Land Conservancy by 5 p.m. Monday, July 21. RSVP can be made by email to LBalek@conservemc.org or by phone at 815-337-9502.
