McGruff the Crime Dog, is coming to Forrestal Village Aug. 5 to help with the National Night Out celebration.

Forrestal Village residents are encouraged to attend the National Night Out event at 5:30-7 p.m. Aug. 5 in front of the Great Lakes Community Center, 2007 Virginia Ave.

National Night Out is an annual event designed to strengthen communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in strong relationships with each other and local law enforcement agencies. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation locally, and send the message that the neighborhoods are organized and working together to prevent crime.

Forest City is teaming up with North Chicago law enforcement, installation resource groups, local businesses and community establishments to provide and evening of food and fun for everyone. McGruff the Crime Dog will be there to visit the kids and representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard are planning a surprise they say you won’t want to miss.

ADT Security representatives will also be on hand with information.

There will be a parade at 5:30 p.m. so start making your posters and signs now. There will be prizes for best decorated stroller and bicycle.
