DOWNERS GROVE – The second annual Chilympics Chili Cook-Off is returning Sept. 21 to Downers Grove.

The home-style chili event, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, is now accepting applications from competitors.

The winner will receive a $500 cash prize and an entry to the International Chili Society national finals held in California. Prizes will also be awarded to the second and third place finishers and to the winner of a people’s choice award.

Chilympics takes place from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 27 at Fishel Park in downtown Downers Grove.

The contest is open to all ages and costs $45 to enter, which includes a $20 membership fee to International Chili Society, a $25 park district registration fee and a commemorative t-shirt.

Competitors must also cook enough chili for the judges and the people’s choice tasting.

Complete information and competitor application forms are available at http://www.dgparks.org/recreation/Chilympics.html.

The deadline to enter is Sept. 12.
