District 300 names new principals

CARPENTERSVILLE – Two in-house candidates at District 300 were recently named the new principals at elementary schools in Lake in the Hills and Carpentersville.

Mark Wetzel, who finished the school year as an assistant principal at Westfield Community School, will now lead Lincoln Prairie Elementary School in Lake in the Hills, according to a news release from the Carpentersville-based school district.

Wetzel first began his District 300 career in 2004, teaching eighth graders at Westfield literacy and social studies. He moved into an administration role in 2011, working as a Westfield assistant principal until last month.

District board members earlier this week also named Jorge Almodovar the new principal at Parkview Elementary in Carpentersville.

Almodovar previously worked as the Title I facilitator, tasked with overseeing the district's federal funds for schools with large low-income populations.

Almodovar started as a bilingual biology and AVID teacher at Dundee-Crown High School in 2007, after teaching various grade levels for three years in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The district's AVID program is designed to help underperforming students in middle and high schools, primarily through extra instruction.

In 2011, Almodovar worked as the dean of students at Dundee-Crown before switching to his administrative role at the district's central office in 2012.
