Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club collecting school supplies for Hope’s Front Door project

DOWNERS GROVE – The Downers Grove Junior Woman’s Club is collecting school supplies in partnership with Hope’s Front Door’s (formerly Walk-In Ministry of Hope) to help families in need during the back-to-school season.

The effort provides school supplies to area children whose parents are facing economic challenges and are unable to purchase required school supplies.

Area residents can donate school supply items now through Aug. 21.

In addition to the basic supplies there is a great need for backpacks, according to a press release.

Items can be dropped off at the Downers Grove Park District Recreation Center, 4500 Belmont Road; Community Bank of Downers Grove, 1111 Warren Ave. and 718 Ogden Ave.; Culvers, 541 Plainfield Road, Darien and 2500 W. Ogden Ave., Downers Grove; Functional Effect Fitness and Rehabilitation, 2474 Wisconsin Ave.; Prestige Liquors, 6249 S. Cass Ave., Westmont; and Lemon Tree Grocer, 5101 Mochel Drive.

Hope's Front Door is looking for donations of three-ring binders, colored pencils, erasers, glue sticks, highlighters, pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners, pocket folders, crayons, broad-tip markers, scissors, pencil cases, wide-ruled spiral notebooks and calculators.

More than 45 percent of the students requiring assistance live in Downers Grove while the remaining live in the communities of Westmont, Darien, Lisle, Willowbrook and Woodridge. Students in pre-K though college have been assisted though the back-to-school collection project, according to a press release.
