ST. CHARLES – Four motorists were charged with driving under the influence during a two-week traffic safety campaign that coincided with Independence Day, according to a St. Charles Police Department news release issued Thursday.
Officers also ticketed eight motorists for seat belt violations; three for driving with a suspended or revoked license; five for driving without insurance; 15 for speeding; 18 for using a cellphone while driving; and eight for other violations.
Additionally, officers issued 31 warnings for various violations.
The campaign, which was done in cooperation with – and funded by – the Illinois Department of Transportation, ended Sunday.
It was part of a statewide program to reduce the number of traffic fatalities.
