GURNEE – The 14U Silver Wave squad earned its second tournament championship of the season on June 29, going 5-0 on the weekend and capturing the Great Lakes Championship.

It started June 28 with the Wave showing it was there to play. With 13-0 and 16-0 wins, the tone was set that this team would be there June 29. On that day, Wave 14U Silver brought the same level of intensity beating Kenosha Fusion 11-0, and then Mundelein Stampede 7-4 earning a spot in the championship game.

Wave faced Evanston Express, a team that the Wave has beaten twice before. The Evanston pitcher was throwing heat and the fastest Wave had seen in the entire tournament, but its players adjusted well.

Scratching out runs in the early innings, and eventually finishing the game scoring with the Wave's eighth run in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game on the mercy rule and earning the Wave squad its second championship of the year and hardware to boot. Having earned its nationals bid earlier in the year, the Wave team will attend the ASA Northern Nationals July 23-27.

The team members on Wave 14U Silver are Kendal Ball, Kelly Beck, Lauren Heraty, Kinsey Jasnoch, Aly Kearschner, Cailin Lebaron, Darrylanne Moreno, Kristin Ostrowski, Kayla Rossi, Ally Samonds, Daelynn Sanchez, and Lindsea Spiewak.

Warren Wave operates as part of Warren Township Girls Softball.
