GLENDALE HEIGHTS – Glendale police were on the scene at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that a semitrailer struck a bicyclist on Army Trail Road near Gladstone Drive in Glendale Heights, according to a news release from the Glendale Heights Police Department.

The victim, a 60-year-old Addison man, was riding his bike when a semitrailer passed the bicyclist in the same lane and struck him. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove by the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District ambulance.

“Unfortunately someone got hurt, but it’s not a fatality. I’m not sure what condition he’s in, but I know it’s non-life threatening,” said Steve Ewoldt, deputy chief for the Glendale Heights Police Department. “It happened at rush hour. The biggest thing we had to do was close the road for a couple of hours while we investigated.”

The truck’s driver, 66-year-old Victor Torres of Crystal Lake, was cited for improper overtaking of a bicyclist on a roadway.
