Question: What is a Vicar of Education? Answer: In the Catholic Church, a Vicar is one who acts in place of another with the full authority and responsibility of that person.

Question: What can you tell us about this new role at SMG and your own background in education? Answer: I have taught on the elementary level (basically all grades), high school, college, graduate school and prisons.

Question: What led you to the Priesthood and Catholic Education specifically? Answer: I was involved in Catholic Education for more than 20 years before I received my call to the Priesthood. As a Franciscan teaching Brother, I had been involved on all levels of education for many years.

Question: How have you seen education and Catholic education change over the years? Answer: The purpose of education has changed over the years. When I started teaching, we were commissioned to bring intellectual growth to the child. The Catholic approach also brings growth to the faith and heart of the child.

Question: What are your thoughts on CORE? Answer: Anything that helps in the education of children is good. Catholic schools have been educating people for a thousand years or more.

Question: How does, or doesn’t, CORE curriculum meet the educational goals of the school? Answer: The CORE curriculum has no impact on the spiritual goals of the school. When the CORE curriculum helps the goal of giving the best education possible to our children, then it is implemented.

Question: How is SMG preparing its students for high school? Answer: We are instilling the values, which help our students to live a highly moral, religious life – one filled with generosity and service. | 445 Prairie Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515 | (630) 969-1063
