Elburn business donates aquarium to children’s center at Delnor

ZeroEdge Aquarium, PetSmart team up for donation

Delnor Hospital has a new aquarium on its grounds, thanks to the efforts of some local businesses.

ZeroEdge Aquarium Corp. in Elburn and PetSmart, which has a location in Geneva, donated a 180-gallon aquarium in late June to the Laurie Children’s at Cadence Health Outpatient Center, located on Delnor’s campus in Geneva.

The ZeroEdge staff contributed the aquarium, filtration and the tank, and PetSmart provided the fish, lighting, other mechanics and the turquoise cabinet that the aquarium sits on, said Brett Perry, ZeroEdge president and owner.

Delnor also received a $5,000 check, Brian Travilla of PetSmart wrote in an email. He referred to the company’s message about animals as the reason for the hospital project.

“We believe pets make us better people,” a plaque on the aquarium cabinet said. “That’s why we are creating more moments to be inspired by pets.”

Travilla reached out to ZeroEdge for the aquarium because he’s friends with one of Perry’s colleagues. The aquarium, which weighs 1,400 pounds when filled with water, took two weeks to construct.

This is the first time ZeroEdge has done such a collaboration with another company for a local cause, Perry said on Tuesday.

“It was fun,” Perry said of the project. “It’s nice to do something for the community like that.”
