EUGENE, Ore. – Hope Schmelzle had a storied running career at Wheaton Warrenville South High School in both cross country and track.

Now the 2013 WWS graduate continues to add to her already impressive resume.

After a strong freshman campaign at Purdue University this past spring, Schmelzle has made the U.S. Junior National track team after competing in the USATF Junior Championships on Sunday.

The incoming college sophomore came in as the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, earning the second and final spot.

She posted a time of 10:35.19 in the event.

Schmelzle will now compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships on July 22-27.

For Purdue, Schmelzle participated in the NCAA East Prelims, placing 26th in the steeplechase.
