CRYSTAL LAKE — The upcoming Tour de Crystal Lake is in need of around 40 volunteers to ensure a safe and successful race, the volunteer coordinator said.
In its second annual year, the Crystal Lake bike race will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 20.
The event needs at least 40 course marshals — volunteers who will stand on corners to keep pedestrians from crossing the race course, volunteer coordinator Karrie Ozyuk said.
"There are eight corner locations where we need two course marshals per corner," she said.
While there are 20-something people signed up already, Ozyuk estimated she needed 40 more to fill the various two-and-a-half-hour shifts.
Each course marshal will be equipped with a flag and a T-shirt.
Ozyuk said volunteers should be at least 15.
Last year's event brought 500 racers and a couple thousand spectators, according to Ozyuk.
