Fire damages Joliet apartment

Published: Monday, July 7, 2014 10:37 p.m. CDT

JOLIET – No one was injured when fire destroyed a room in a second-floor apartment Sunday night.

Capt Pat Strocchia said the fire was reported at 10:36 p.m. by a neighbor in the 1100 block of Woodruff Road.

“A resident in the downstairs unit reported smelling smoke, but believed it was [coming from] a fire pit,” Strocchia said. “All of the occupants were out from the second floor before crews arrived.”

The cause of the fire, which damaged one room and its contents, is under investigation, Strocchia said. The Red Cross found temporary lodging for four adults and one child, according to reports.
