WESTERN SPRINGS – The village of Western Springs will offer an open application period throughout the month of July for its Community Garden program's 2014 season.

The garden – available for residents, property owners, local business owners and community groups – will be scheduled on a first-come first-serve basis. Those who are interested can find forms online at www.wsprings.com.

To register for the garden, at 5424 Fair Elms Ave., mail a form to Matt Supert, Director of Municipal Services, 740 Hillgrove Ave.

The proposed plan for the Community Garden program was introduced to the village board in March.

On June 23, the village board approved the proposed garden plan submitted by the 5424 Fair Elms Avenue Community Garden Association.

The nonprofit organization's plan called for placing a garden in the unused property at the Fair Elms lift station.
