Loaves & Fishes celebrates 30 years with name change, fundraiser

NAPERVILLE – Area nonprofit Loaves & Fishes celebrated its 30th anniversary June 13 with a name change during its seventh annual “Day Without Hunger” event at its Naperville headquarters, according to a news release from the organization.

Formerly known as Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry, the nonprofit is now called Loaves & Fishes Community Services, to reflect its program evolution.

In 1984, Loaves & Fishes was created by parishioners at a local church and served eight families out of a basement closet. Today, it has a 17,000-square-foot facility and provides 4,770 families with a range of services, such as job search support, food assistance, skill-based classes and public benefit assistance.

During the event, the nonprofit also announced its $6 million Power of Community Campaign. All donations received up to Dec. 31, 2015 will be counted toward the goal. The effort has already generated more than $3.3 million.
