Will County Historical Society celebrates 50th anniversary

LOCKPORT – The Will County Historical Society will celebrate its 50th anniversary at a Founder's Day picnic on Saturday.

The picnic will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Village, Route 171 and Second Avenue in Lockport. The picnic will include a tour of Heritage Village at 2 p.m.

All current and past members of the Will County Historical Society have been invited, according to a news release about the anniversary.

The Will County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving local history for future generations. The society owns and maintains the former office of the I&M Canal Commissioners, 803 S. State St. in Lockport. The office is now the Will County Historical Society Museum & Research Center.

The society maintains a collection of artifacts, research materials and exhibits to tell the history of the area.
