BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook moms will now have the opportunity to sing and play with their little ones while working up a sweat.

A grand opening event for the new location of Baby Boot Camp fitness classes will be held 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the center open courtyard of The Promenade Bolingbrook, 631 E. Boughton Road.

“I’m excited about it,” said Jenine Reier, Baby Boot Camp franchise owner of Naperville and Bolingbrook. “It’s a great area and there is a need for it because there’s not anything like it there.”

In addition to a free fitness class, a certified kindergarten teacher will also host activities with school-aged kids during the grand opening event. A Fourth of July craft and snack will also be available after the workout.

Baby Boot Camp is a stroller fitness program that helps moms regain or enhance pre-pregnancy fitness levels and meet the physical challenges of parenting by emphasizing strength training in a supportive environment, according to www.babybootcamp.com. The nationwide program, which was founded by CEO Kristen Horler, offers individuals the opportunity to become franchise owners.

“It’s not a traditional workout,” said Reier, who is an Aerobics and Fitness Association of America certified group fitness instructor. “It’s a program where you can come with your baby and get a strong, effective workout while your kids are having fun.”

Reier, a Naperville native, said she and another instructor will teach the classes at the Bolingbrook location, which will be held at 9 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Moms can join Baby Boot Camp for $55 per month, which grants access to any fitness classes at any location, Reier said, adding that the first class is always free.

Workout programs offered through Baby Boot Camp, which are also available to expecting moms, are Strollfit, Strollga, StrollerFriends, 5K Training Program and Nutrition Solutions.

Examples of workouts include doing squats while playing peekaboo, performing cardio drills while singing songs to the children as they face one another in their strollers, holding children during abdominal workouts for additional weight and doing lunges with the strollers, Reier said.

Naperville resident Melissa Allsteadt, mother of a 4-year-old and 17-month-old, said she enrolled in the Baby Boot Camp program so she could work out, avoid fees for daycare and keep her children with her, she said.

“You are not just working out isolated in a gym,” Allsteadt said. “You work out with people you become friends with since there is more support and no competition.”

Allsteadt, who has lost 30 pounds since February, said her children also enjoy the program, as they became friends with the other children in the program.

“My 4-year-old loves it and sometimes gets out of the stroller and does it with me,” Allsteadt said.

Tara Dham, of Naperville, began taking her 3-year-old and 1-year-old to the fitness classes in the beginning of October 2013. She said she and her children enjoy the classes and Reier’s positive attitude.

“I think I was a little nervous at first, but after one class you realize everyone is in the same group with you and the kids,” Dham said. “[Reier] is there for everyone for everything, whether it’s for the workout or not.”

Reier’s favorite aspect of instructing the fitness classes is to see each mother progress.

“When moms join they are nervous and afraid they are not strong enough,” Reier said. “I love pushing them to reach their fitness goals and seeing growth in the members and setting goals and reaching goals.”
