Lemont student wins gold at Special Olympics

LEMONT – Lemont High School freshman Michaela Tauer won a gold medal in the softball throw at the Special Olympics State Games the weekend of June 13 at Illinois State University, according to a Lemont High School press release.

The Lemont High School squad participated in a regional event May 3 to qualify for state. Each of Lemont's 11 athletes earned at least one top-five finish, and the team racked up 19 top-five finishes in all at the event.

Four athletes won events at the regional. Junior Andrew Forzley won the softball throw; junior Alyssa Wood won the Motorized Wheelchair Slalom; sophomore Isaac Ziebell finished first in the softball throw; and Tauer won her softball throw event.
