DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove South's Lucy Jin was one of 28 students and one of 13 in Illinois named to Greenhouse Scholars Class of 2018, according to a press release.
"Each new class of Scholars is carefully selected for their incredible academic achievements, commitment to bettering their communities, and demonstrated leadership skills – despite being from under resourced communities, "Greenhouse Scholars President and CEO Pete Burridge said in the press release.
"By providing a variety of personal and financial support Greenhouse Scholars cultivates and inspires students as they change the trajectories of their families, their communities, and broader global communities."
Jin is a Darien resident and plans to attend Loyola University of Chicago.
The Greenhouse Scholars organization utilizes its “Whole Person” approach, which offers the students intellectual, academic, professional, and financial support, according to the release.
Through the program’s seven components of Mentorship, professional Networking, peer support, Internship, summer symposium, flex funding, and tuition scholarship, greenhouse scholars is cultivating the next generation of community leaders, the release stated.
Jin is a Mustang Way Leader at Downers Grove South High School,where she works alongside teachers to motivate and encourage students’ positive behavior, according to the press release.
