JOLIET – Award-winning husband/wife country duo Thompson Square is returning to Joliet on Saturday, officially this time.

Keifer and Shawna Thompson had actually visited Joliet last week, but not to perform. The Thompsons were traveling from one performance to the next and Joliet was on the way.

“We had a day off,” Shawna said, “so our drivers rested and we hung out at the mall.”

Shawna is thrilled she and Keifer are part of this year’s Taste of Joliet and feels their show has something to offer loyal fans as well as music lovers looking to hear something new.

“There’s a lot of guitars and it’s very high energy,” Keifer said. “It’s not a boring show, that’s for sure.”

Married for 15 years, the Thompsons met each other in 1996 after they both relocated to Nashville – Shawna from Alabama and Keifer from Oklahoma – and participated in the same singing competition.

“We’ve been singing together ever since,” Shawna said.

It’s been a sweet ride. Thompson Square’s breakthrough, Grammy-nominated song, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?” has earned more than $2 million in sales. “Everything I Shouldn’t be Thinking About” was a Top 5 U.S. Country Radio hit, according to a press release from the duo’s management company.

In 2012, both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association named Thompson Square “Vocal Duo of the Year” and ACM repeated that honor in 2013, according to that same release.

The couple has also released a novel based on their song, “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not?” They are also the celebrity ambassadors of ChildFund International.

The couple is currently working on a new album, scheduled for release in November 2014, Shauna said. Unfamiliar with Thompson Square? Expect plenty of enthusiastic audience participation, Keifer said. Fans love to sing along with the duo and not just the familiar hit singles.

“They know a lot of the album tracks, too,” Shauna said.

This couple’s mutual love of cooking and great food makes Taste of Joliet the perfect venue for Thompson Square. When the Thompsons are not performing, they intend to do plenty of tasting.

“We’re up for whatever is there,” Shawna said.
