Downers Grove-area competitors win bronze, gold at national Special Olympics

DOWNERS GROVE – Downers Grove South alumnus Christina Schutz and Team Illinois Volleyball won gold Friday at the 2014 Special Olympics National Games in New Jersey.

Schutz, a 27-year-old Darien resident is in the Garden State along with 2,500 athletes to compete in a variety of sports at the USA Games, which began June 15.

Downers Grove 32-year-old Jeff Osowski also took bronze at the games in the 9-hole golf event. He placed first in his golf flight at both state and regional Special Olympics, but this marked his first time at the national competition.
