Bullets hit Joliet house
JOLIET – No one was injured when bullets struck a house Thursday near Union Street and Second Avenue.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said three men were seen running from the area after gunfire was reported at 12:37 p.m.
“This is crazy. We have kids getting off the school bus a few minutes later,” said a resident named Shelly who did not want to provide her last name.
Shelly said the area has had gang problems for a long time. The vacant lot on the southeast corner of the intersection used to have a house that was frequently targeted by gang members before it was torn down.
Bullets struck the side of the house next to the vacant lot but did not penetrate the stucco walls. Police questioned the residents but had not determined if the house or someone passing by outside was the target of the attack, Roechner said.
