Cicero's Cease Fire Week kicks off Monday

CICERO – Corazón Community Services, in collaboration with other community partners, will kick off Cease Fire Week 2014 in Cicero on Monday.

The eighth annual Cease Fire Week in Cicero is the most expansive collaboration, and includes the biggest list, of free activities ever offered, organizers said. Events during the week spotlight the strides Cicero has made in reducing violence, while also educating youth about nonviolence. The week focuses on preventing youth violence thought art, family activities and sports.

All events during Cease Fire Week are free. Lunch and T-Shirts will also be provided to participants. More information is available at 708-656-1400.

MONDAY, JUNE 239 a.m. Soccer Tournament Registration will be held at 1808 S. Laramie Ave. Youth and young adults ages 4 to 21 can sign up to play. The tournament starts at 11:30 a.m.

TUESDAY, JUNE 249 a.m. Volleyball Tournament Registration will be held at Unity Junior High, 2115 W 54th Ave. Youth and young adults ages 14 and up can sign up to play. The tournament starts at 11:30 a.m. Clinics are also available to participants in elementary school and junior high.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 259 a.m. Softball Tournament Registration will be held at Kolar Field, 36th St. and 60th Ave. Youth and young adults ages 10 and up can sign up. The tournament starts at 11 a.m.

6 p.m. Break the Violence Night will start at Parkholme Community House, 1820 S. 51st Court. The event is sponsored by Vida Abundante Church and is open to families of all ages.

THURSDAY, JUNE 269 a.m. Registration for the three-on-three basketball tournament will be held at Cicero Stadium, 1909 S. Laramie Ave. Youth and young adults ages 9 to 25 can sign up. The tournament starts at 10:30 a.m.

11 a.m. The Family Fun Carnival will be held at Clyde Park, 2724 S. 61st Ave. The carnival is sponsored by CYTF: Early Childhood Committee. The carnival is open to families of all ages.

7 p.m. Keep the Peace Interfaith Service, located at the Cicero Community Center, 2250 S 49th Ave. The event is sponsored by the Town of Cicero Clergy Committee and is open to all faiths and families of all ages.

FRIDAY, June 271to 4 p.m.- Family Health Fair will be held at the Cicero Community Center, 2250 S. 49th Ave. The event is open to families of all ages.

5:30 p.m.- March For Peace. Location to be determined.
