Letter: Prioritize healthcare for veterans

Published: Monday, June 16, 2014 6:43 p.m. CDT

To the editor:

There can be no greater responsibility, or honor, than to care for our veterans. Upon learning of the disgraceful way our veterans have been treated we should all be outraged and ashamed.

Is this the new reality of government supplied healthcare? Do we now tell our veterans that if they like their VA benefits they can keep them? Is the army of bureaucrats to be better treated and cared for than the real veterans?

Real leaders step up and accept responsibility for what happens on their watch. They do not make excuses that are formulated by public relations professionals who are hired to mask any inherent lack of experience.

Healthcare for our veterans must be job number one for all Americans and must be priority one for our politicians. If we are not prepared to protect our veterans' backs, then we must all be prepared to go the front.
