Lemont players including Jake Terrazas (No. 34) celebrate their 8-3 win against Metamora during Friday's Class 3A state semifinal game at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.

JOLIET – Behind a four run first inning and the pitching of Charlie Wright, the Lemont baseball team is just one win away from its first state title after knocking off Metamora 8-3 in a Class 3A semifinal Friday morning.

After the visitors plated two runs in the opening frame, the Indians responded with five straight hits to being the bottom of the first. Mike Papierski contributed a two-run double and Jake Terrazas and Eric Tucker both drove in runs with singles.

Jamie Glista gave Lemont some breathing room with a two-run single in the fifth and Papierski put the finishing touches on the victory with a two run homer an inning later.

Wright settled down after a rocky first and tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits while striking out seven.

Lemont improved to 34-5 on the spring and advances to the title game at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Staff ace Jake Latz, who has yielded just two earned runs on the season, is expected to get the ball against either Grayslake Central or Sacred Heart-Griffin.
