Woodstock Challenger gets $5K from MCCF

WOODSTOCK – Fields used by the Woodstock Challenger Little League program will be more easily accessible to players with special needs next season thanks to a grant from the McHenry County Community Foundation.

The league has received $5,000 from the foundation to make fields more compliant with the American Disabilities Act, according to a news release from Woodstock Challenger Little League. Changes will include easier entrances to dugouts, appropriate walkways and other upgrades.

Woodstock Challenger was the first league for players with special needs when it was established in 2012. A similar league has since started in McHenry.

Today, nearly 1,000 leagues in seven countries offer Challenger, serving more than 30,000 children, the release said.

Challenger caters to children with mental and physical disabilities and allows players from age 5 though 18, or the end of high school.
