County seeks input on electric aggregation plan

Kane County is seeking public feedback on an aspect of its new electric aggregation program.

The county must adopt an aggregation plan of operation and governance before implementing the program, and it's that document that will be the subject of two public hearings this month.

The first hearing is set for 5:15 p.m. June 24 in the County Board Room in Building A of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Another is set for 7 p.m. June 25 at Fisherman's Inn, 43W901 Main Street Road, Elburn.

Ken Anderson, the county's environmental and water resource division director, has said he planned to invite the Illinois Power Agency and ComEd to the hearings in an effort to provide as much information on the electric aggregation program as possible.

Approved by voters in March, electric aggregation gives the county the power to negotiate electric rates for unincorporated residents.

Residents can opt out of the program and continue to get their electricity supplied by ComEd, but the county expects that those in the program should experience some savings.

According to the county, the plan of operation and governance describes the policies and procedures by which the county will carry out its electric aggregation program, including policies and procedures relating to rates and customer service.

It also includes information on opt-out procedures, billing and the selection of an electric supplier, according to the county.

A copy of the proposed plan is available for inspection during normal business hours at the Kane County Clerk's Office, which is in Building B on the government center campus.
