Glenbard North softball to make first trip to state tournament since 2001

ROSEMONT – Behind a standout performance from Cece Dopart, the Glenbard North softball team advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals with a 4-0 win against Oak Park Monday at the Leyden supersectional at Bandits Stadium.

The Panthers advance to the state finals for the first time since 2001 and will face Warren in a state semifinal game at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Eastside Centre in Peoria.

Dopart tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out nine while allowing just four hits. The senior worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with the Panthers clinging to a 1-0 lead.

She had provided her own run support with an RBI-single in the fourth inning. The Panthers then added three insurance runs in the of the top of the seventh, with a two-run triple by Laura Petzold the big blow. Alex Caliva followed with an RBI-groundout.
