Stout recently finished his junior season at Butler University.
The 6-foot-3 left-handed throwing starting pitcher led the team with 13 starts on the mound and won three games while notching a save and striking out 64 batters in 67 2/3 innings. He fanned a season-high nine batters in his final start of the year against Villanova.
As a sophomore, Stout went 8-5 in 14 starts and threw 84 2/3 innings on the mound. He also made 19 appearances as a freshman, winning three games in 54 2/3 innings of work.
At St. Francis, Stout was selected as the Suburban Christian Conference player of the year in 2011 after winning 10 games while batting .422.
The Royals had a 31-32 record as of Tuesday, placing them fourth in the American League Central.
