NAPERVILLE – Hinsdale South's girls soccer team ended two droughts on Saturday.

The Hornets scored their first goal ever at the state finals and officially earned their first state trophy.

Sarah Warren scored South's first goal at state when she buried the ball in the back of the net with just under nine minutes remaining in the Class 2A state third place game against Chatham Glenwood at North Central College.

The Hornets (19-8-1) brought home a fourth-place finish after falling 3-1 against Glenwood.

South keeper Jean Cote made seven saves, but the offense found it tough to generate opportunities against Glenwood's stout defense. The Hornets managed three shots on goal, two by Warren and the other by Cassie Jensen.
