Work starts Monday on Main Street Bridge near Huntley

HUNTLEY – McHenry County road crews on Monday will begin renovation work on the 53-year-old Main Street Bridge near Huntley and close nearby intersections for the next two months.

Built in 1961, the bridge that carries over the south branch of the Kishwaukee River, between Harmony Road and Coyne Station Road, will undergo a major rehabilitation, county transportation officials announced earlier this week.

Crews on Monday will start initial work to replace the existing asphalt along the old bridge with reinforced concrete. Crews will also replace a six-feet concrete slab and make upgrades to the bridge's surface, rails and approach pavement.

The construction work means a portion of Main Street, one mile west of Huntley, will be closed between Harmony Road and Coyne Station Road from Monday to early August.

Motorists driving through the area will be detoured to Route 47, Route 176, Route 23, Route 20 and Harmony Road. Local traffic will still have access up to the bridge, transportation officials said.

County transportation officials apologize in advance for the inconvenience. For more information on the project, visit www.mchenrycountydot.org.
