St. Barbara’s thanks community for support

Published: Friday, June 13, 2014 3:06 p.m. CDT

To the Editor:

On behalf of the families using our St. Barbara Food Pantry – Thank you! With your generous donations of groceries, toiletries and cash our hungry neighbors will have food for their tables.

The U.S. Postal Service Drive in early May brought our food pantry over 200 postal sorting bins of food. The wonderful Brookfield and La Grange Park Scouts and their families picked up the food after the postal working brought it back to the Brookfield Post Office, and then helped us check the food in, sort it and shelve it.

Vince and Frank Pozzie, local Eagle Scout candidates, opened their hearts to their less fortunate neighbors and hosted cleaning supply and paper good drives for our families. These supplies are not covered under any government assistance, and the families really appreciated receiving these material.

I have to apologize in advance for my delay in thanking Tishler's Finer Foods for hosting the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile in March. Dennis and his staff hosted a fun family lunch int he midst of a miserable winter and brought our pantry over $1,200 in cash donations as well. His store also make it easy for individuals to buy a meal for a hungry family by offering affordable meal packages for purchase. Please remember that even though it is nice outside, you still have hungry neighbors.

Thank you for your generosity. Wishing you all a safe and lovely summer!

Sincerely,

Sister Margaret Halligan, CSJ
