Le Petit Armoire children's consignment boutique opens in downtown Glen Ellyn

GLEN ELLYN – Its name may be French, but the village's newest downtown boutique is by Glen Ellyn residents, for Glen Ellyn residents.

Le Petit Armoire, an upscale children's consignment store, opened May 1 at 540 Duane St. It will celebrate with a grand opening event Thursday to Saturday.

“It's a new business, something we don't have in downtown Glen Ellyn right now,” said Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn Executive Director Carol White. “When there's more choices to shop, that draws more and more people downtown.”

During the event, the store will offer customers a drawing ticket to win one of more than 30 items donated by local retailers for every $25 they spend. The opening will also include popcorn, treats for kids and extended business hours.

Owner Nicole DiSilvestro is a first-time business operator, but having a children's clothing store has been a dream for the Glen Ellyn mother of two since she sold kid's apparel at Benetton after graduating college.

“It's just a natural fit for me,” she said. “I love working with people.”

DiSilvestro said she was inspired by the parents she knew who had barely-worn high-end clothes purchased for holidays or school pictures, and wanted to create an opportunity for them to get something back for the items.

She started the store by soliciting potential suppliers through local organizations, social media and by leaving cards at area businesses.

Le Petit Armoire opened with 22 consigners, and now has 56.

The shop sells new and like-new designer merchandise similar to what parents might find at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus or Bloomingdale's. DiSilvestro also carries one-of-a-kind pieces consigners might have purchased on vacation or at a trunk show.

Products include clothing in sizes zero to 14, shoes, décor, diaper bags, accessories and gift items, such as locally-crafted hair bows and barrettes and American Girl doll clothes.

Prices range from $6.99 to $150. 40 percent of merchandise still has its original tags.

DiSilvestro said she hopes Glen Ellyn parents will see her store as a place to make quick purchases that offers convenience with a personal touch.

“There's something for everybody,” she said. “It's like a one-stop-shop.”
