Abandoned farmhouse burns in Blackberry Township

BLACKBERRY TOWNSHIP – Local firefighters were called to a fire at an abandoned two-story farmhouse at 1N711 Brundige Road on Wednesday evening.

Elburn Assistant Fire Chief Craig Hanson said the farmstead has been vacant for at least four years. No one was inside the house and no firefighters were injured, he said.

Hanson said firefighters were using nearby Mill Creek to pump water into an inflatable pool to control the fire. Hanson said the cause of the fire will be under investigation.

Other agencies represented included Geneva, Sugar Grove and Batavia.
