WEST CHICAGO – The West Chicago Police Department issued 27 seat belt citations and more during its most recent Click It or Ticket campaign May 9 through 26, according to a city news release.

The police department joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois in the annual effort to get more motorists to buckle up in the front and back seats.

During the mobilization supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, West Chicago police issued:

• 27 seat belt citations

• one child safety seat citation

• two DUI arrests

• six no valid driver's license citations

• 34 uninsured motorist citations

• 17 speeding citations

• one possession of drug paraphernalia arrest.

While the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization may be over in West Chicago, that is no excuse to stop using a seat belt, Police Sgt. Spencer Kroning said in the release.

“Our officers are out all year long," he said. "If you or your passengers, in the front seat or back seat, are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation."
